Apple MacBook Pro

On 28 October 2026 Apple announced a redesigned MacBook Pro with a "PROLED XDR" display and Touch — the first Mac you can control by touching the screen. It comes in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes with M5 Pro or M5 Max chips, ships with macOS 27, and reaches customers from Friday 6 November. Pre-orders opened the same day in 30 countries and regions; in Japan they opened on 29 October, according to ITmedia.

Display and design: the panel uses tandem OLED with up to 2,000 nits peak brightness (HDR and SDR), a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and ProMotion from 10 Hz to 120 Hz. The notch is replaced by a Dynamic Island that holds Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI. Apple says the 14-inch weighs 3 lb and the 16-inch 4 lb, both slightly thinner than before, with three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC slot, MagSafe and up to 24 hours of battery life (Apple's own testing).

How Touch works: the touch sensor is built into the display panel, and a new hinge keeps the screen steady. Gestures include swiping to scroll, pinching to zoom, drag-and-drop between windows and double-tapping a window to fill the screen; keyboard shortcuts and trackpad gestures still work alongside. Apple says macOS translates touches into clicks, so "many" existing apps work with Touch right away, and that updated system gesture APIs let developers build experiences designed for Touch. Developers can also test how their iOS and iPadOS apps behave on the touch display. Apple names Notion, Canva, Zoom, Microsoft Office, Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve and Blender among apps adding Touch support "later this year".

Prices: in the US the 14-inch M5 Pro starts at $2,899 and the 16-inch at $3,399; M5 Max models start at $4,499 and $4,799. In Japan, ITmedia reports ¥499,800 (14-inch M5 Pro), ¥599,800 (16-inch M5 Pro), ¥769,800 and ¥829,800 (M5 Max). MacRumors says the existing mini-LED MacBook Pro models stay on sale alongside the new ones.

Also new — M6: on 27 October Apple launched a 14-inch MacBook Pro (non-touch) with the M6 chip: 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU with a Neural Accelerator in each core, 16 GB of memory as standard (up to 32 GB), from $1,999. Apple claims up to 30% faster graphics and up to 1.3x faster Xcode builds than the M5 model. It also ships on 6 November.
