Claude Code Game Studios is an open-source template that gives a single Claude Code session the structure of a game studio. It was made by GitHub user Donchitos and is released under the MIT licence. According to GitHub trending data, it gained about 6,700 stars in a week and now has about 36,100 stars and 4,800 forks. We found no Hacker News discussion of it.
What is in it: the README lists 49 agents, 74 skills (slash commands; the repository's About line still says 72), 15 hooks, 14 path-scoped coding rules and 62 document templates. The agents are arranged in three tiers: directors (creative, technical, producer), department leads (design, programming, art, audio, narrative, QA, release, localisation) and specialists such as gameplay and engine programmers, level designers and QA testers. There are separate agent sets for Godot 4, Unity and Unreal Engine 5. The README says agents present options and that nothing is written without your sign-off.
How to try it: you need Git, Claude Code (Node.js 22+ if installed through npm), Python 3 and Bash; jq is recommended. Clone it as your game folder with git clone https://github.com/Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios.git my-game, run cd my-game and claude, then type /start. A typical flow is /setup-engine, /brainstorm, /create-stories, /dev-story and /story-done. Start Claude Code in the project root: from a subfolder, the hooks and permission rules are skipped.
Limits: the repository has no tagged releases. The author is candid that more process is not always better: the default rigour setting is minimal, and in a four-game test the standard build ranked last; the games from that test are not in the repo. Development happens mainly on Windows with Git Bash, and desktop notifications on macOS and Linux are not wired yet. A DEV Community write-up warns that the 15 hooks run bash on your machine, that many agents can be invoked per task so tokens go fast, and that director agents use Opus. Much of the output is design documents and plans around the code, not a finished game.
