One robots.txt line to opt out of AI training: Google, Microsoft, OpenAI and Anthropic back a shared signal
On 30 October Google, Microsoft, OpenAI and Anthropic committed to honour a shared robots.txt token, __usage_ai-training, that tells several AI providers at once not to train on a site. Microsoft starts on 1 February 2027; Google aims for 2027; OpenAI and Anthropic gave no date. It is voluntary and covers training, not every AI use.
